2020 Spring upate

4-12-2020

Well as you may ave guessed this year so far as been pretty much a waste. All of our friends were on South padre Island with us until the midle of March when Kay and Walter left. Gay and Natalie arrived the same day Kay and Walter left.

That was the middle of March and by that time the emergency order was in place and every thing was shut down. They closed the beach so there was no more fishing. Of course the toilet paper was gone as well as many other things. By the end of March the grocery stores were able to pretty much restock most things. By the end of March the Bradleys decided to leave and head for Michigan. W decided that we might as well head home ales as the park was less than a third occupied.

We left on March 31 and drove the 518 miles home in one day. Things here in Burleson were all shut down also. We have pretty much stayed home. We have done curb side pick up for groceries  a couple of times.

There is plenty to do her at home so we are not bored. Hope everyone is doing well and staying home.

Start of travels 2020

1-20-2020

Well we are back on the road again after a long summer at home. We did accomplish a lot of projects while at home. We converted all the lights in the shop from florescent to LED. This will save a lot on the electric bill and the new bulbs are really bright. We installed electric operators on our two gates, it is really nice to push a button in the car to open and close the gates. We repainted our iron fence across the front of the property and painted our Texas stars. We also got a new bedroom set after visiting many furniture stores.

I built a coal forge and have started to do some blacksmithing. There is a lot to learn when it comes to hammering hot metal.

We left home on the 13th of January and stopped in Schulenburg  Texas, where the we toured the Painted churches in the area. These churches were built by the German and Czeck settlers in the mid 1800's. The Catholic churches were eal fancy while the other were a lot planner.

We arrived here on South Padre Island on the 15th. Our group will all be here by today. Ready to start fishing and relaxing.

Las Cruses Graduation

6-14-2019

It was a busy time in Las Cruses for Julie's graduation. The activities started on Friday when we attended two ceremonies, the first was for graduating with Honors and being a Crimson Scholar, the second was for the Dean's award of excellence. Saturday was the full graduation ceremony.

Monday we attended a Boy Scout Honors Ceremony for Joshua. We went to a Band Concert for Joshua and Max, Joshua played the trumpet and Max played the tuba and the trombone.Thursday I went to a Doughnuts for Dad program with Amelia at her school.

We stayed in a motel during our stay except for the last three nights when we stayed in the Casita at Julies. We got a call from the Freightliner dealer on Thursday telling us the turbo had been replaced and the insurance adjuster had been there approving the repair.

We left Las Cruses very early Friday morning and drove 630 miles to San Antonio arriving about 3:30 PM. We took care of the paper work, hooked up the Jeep and drove 250 miles home. We got home about 9:30 PM total exhausted after a total driving day of 880 miles.

Despite all the issues with the coach and having to stay in a motel it was a nice trip.

Spring 2019

June 10, 2019

We have done a lot of things since the last post in March. We stayed on South Padre Island until April 18th when we headed for a Fantasy Rally in San Antonio. Unfortunately we got within 60 miles of San Antonio when we got an error message on the RV dash which said " Stop Engine". We were able to pull of the highway and called a Freightliner Dealer in San Antonio who sent a Mobil unit out to us. He was unable to fix the problem so we had wrecker tow the RV to a local Walmart where we spent the night because the Freightliner dealer was closed. The wrecker came back in the morning a towed us t the Freightliner dealer. This was on Friday and the dealer was not going to be able to look at the coach until the following week.

So on Friday we loaded what we needed into the Jeep and dove 250 miles home from San Antonio. Sunday morning we got a call from the Rally wagon master who said he had talked to the campground and gotten a deal for a cabin for the week. Since we had already paid for the Rally we decided to go, so we loaded the jeep up with clothes, electronics, food for the dogs and the two dogs and drove back to San Antonio to the camp ground.

We enjoyed the San Antonio Fiesta Rally. We saw several parades, had good food and spent a nice day in Fredericksburg. We visited the SAS (San Antonio Shoe) factory. We took a bus tour of the city and visited three Missions plus the Alamo. We took a boat trip down the San Antonio river. We visited the Brisco Western Art Museum which was really nice with many western pictures and statues. It was a very good rally.

Friday they told us our coach was fixed, they replaced the turbo actuator. We picked the coach up at 5 PM and drove t the camp ground. The problem was there was no air in the air bags which made for an extremely rough ride. We called the Freightliner dealer to have the mobile service come out, The technician could hear an air leak but he could not pin point it. A technician in the shop said he could fix it and he would be in the shop at 6 AM Saturday, We got up early and we were at the dealer before 6:30 AM.  They found a leaking check valve and replaced it. Still no air in the air bags. Then they found a plg was missing from the air tank. It had been removed by the tow truck diver to air up the brakes to release the emergency brkes and not put back in. With a new plug we had air in the air bags and we headed down the road to Fredericksburg.
sss
We spent a week in Fredericksburg visiting wineries and second hand shops. We took a drive to Kerrville which is a quaint town in the hill country.

We then headed toward Fort Stockton on our way to Las Cruses New Mexico for Judy's daughter's graduation from New Mexico State. Things again took a turn for the worst. We got 30 miles down the road when the Stop Engine light came on again. We tried to get mobile service but none was available so we had to drive back to Kerrville to a repair shop. They couldn't look at the coach until the next morning so we found a camp ground a short distance frm the repair shop. The next morning we to the shop and they checked the error codes and determined they were the same as when we had the problem two weeks earlier. They advised us t go back to the dealer in San Antonio, so we drove 90 miles to the Freightliner dealer in San Antonio.

The dealer couldn't look at the coach on Wednesday the day we got there, They said it would be at least the next day. We knew we would not get to Las Cruses in time for the Friday ceremonials even if we got he coach Thursday afternoon. So we loaded all the necessary things we would need including the two dogs and left San Antonio in the Jeep headed toward New Mexico. We made to Fort Stockton when we were to tired to continue. We left early the next morning and drove the rest of the way to Las Cruses, arriving about noon on Thursday. Julie had found us a pet friendly motel to stay in.

I will post the pictures from the Fiesta in the next post as well as cover all graduation ceremonies. We did eventually get the RV fixed.

South Padre 3-11-2019

3-11-2019

We have been here on South Padre Island since January 15th.
Things didn't start too well as Judy's mother went in the hospital and she flew to Pennsylvania on January 23rd and her Mother passed away on the 24th. She stayed for two weeks helping the family take care of things.

We have had some days in the 60's and some days in the 80's. Fishing has been off and on but generally we have a lot of fish in the freezer. We have had one fish fry for 8 of us and we grilled pompano for the whole group also. Walter and Kay put on a shrimp boil.  We had a nice super bowel party.

I went to a indoor kite show. You can see them in the pictures. We went tp a car sow and tattoo expo. Jugroupdy had her wolf tattoo enhanced and a dream catcher added. I got a wolf tattoo.

On Sunday we go to an event known as Bloody Mary Sunday. The hosts provide Bloody Marys and people bring lots of things to eat. It is a pretty big group.

We saw an old Willy's jeep. You will see it in the pictures. Almost every night 10 of us get together a pay a card game called Fat Head.

One couple left a couple of weeks ago and another left today. The other two will leave before the end of the month.

Well thats it for now.
